Your Own Top 10 List

It’s that time of the year again when Top 10 lists for anything and everything seem to be popping up everywhere. Seems there’s a list for Best Dressed, Worst Dressed, Best Movies, Sexiest Stars, Top TV Shows, Songs, Safest Cars, Popular Children’s Names and on and on.

Have you made your Top 10 List? Even though it may sound trivial or somewhat silly, Top 10 lists are quite helpful and thought-provoking. I have made my own “Top” lists for both professional and personal things for a long time. It’s a great way to think about your accomplishments and remember some of the successes and highlights of the past year. You may have even gotten so busy that you’ve forgotten a few! As 2005 comes to a close and you start to recall your own 2005 “Top 10 Highlights,” this can serve as a terrific motivator as you set your PR and personal goals for next year. So, grab a pen and paper and start listing!

Some of my top accomplishments in my professional life this year are winning the “Entrepreneur of the Year” Award from the Edison Chamber of Commerce, re-shaping and expanding my office staff and team, doing more presentations and workshops to help business professionals, starting to write my first book and successfully launching this E-zine! On the personal side, I’ve been able to spend more time with my husband and children, I’ve taken more time for myself and I am learning to master the words “relax and quiet” and I’ve started reading a lot more than I have in years (audio CD’s and tapes in the car are great but actually finding the time to read is excellent!)

Once you’ve listed your Top 10 Accomplishments and Highlights, write down specific and realistic goals with deadlines that you plan to accomplish in 2006. It’s crucial that you write these down and not just think about them. Once you make the commitment on paper, your brain will get set on auto-pilot and amazing things can start to happen to move you closer to your goals! They don’t have to be huge goals. It’s often good to get started with small goals and “baby steps” that are not too tough to accomplish. This can give you a feeling of success and momentum, which is a terrific motivator for the bigger goals.

Remember: “Hope” is not a strategy.

Happy Holidays to each of you. We have much to be grateful for and much to look forward to.
